How to play

You're given a country. Name the closest country starting with the given letter.

Modes

Daily: the same 5 rounds for everyone, once a day (new puzzle at 00:00 UTC). The closest answer scores 3 points, 2nd closest 2, 3rd closest 1, and anything further 0. A hint costs 1 point. The best possible score is 15.
Streak: any answer in the top 3 closest keeps your streak going, and that country becomes your next starting point. An answer outside the top 3 ends the game.
Globetrotter: like Streak, but every country you visit leaves the pool. Visit all of them to win. You have three lives: an answer outside the top 3 (or not the closest, on Expert) costs one, and you get another go at the same country and letter.

Rules

Distance is measured between the nearest points of the two countries. Neighbours are 0 km apart, so several countries can share 1st place.
Only a country's home territory counts: France is mainland France and Corsica, not French Guiana. Disputed areas don't count for anyone.
Each country has one true name, which decides its letter. Other common names like "USA" or "UK" are accepted, but still count under the true name's letter: Côte d'Ivoire is Ivory Coast, so it counts for I, not C. The Country list shows every name.

Example: from France with the letter S, Spain and Switzerland are joint 1st (both border France), and San Marino is 3rd.

Difficulty (Streak and Globetrotter)

Easy: a map, plus a list of countries starting with the letter.
Default: just the map.
Hard: no help!
Expert: no help, and only the closest country counts, not the top 3. If several tie for closest, any of them will do.

Country list

Every country has one true name. That's the name that counts: it decides which letter the country belongs to, and it's the name you'll see in the game.

Some countries also have other accepted names (shown in grey), so you can type "USA" or "UK". They still count under the true name's letter: Côte d'Ivoire is Ivory Coast, so it counts for I, not C.

Capital letters, accents and punctuation don't matter.
